Students at FHN in band and choir have qualified and gone to state. April 30 through May 1, students went to Columbia and performed as a soloist or part of an ensemble. Judges there scored them and students who did well enough on their performance were able to move up and advance to the next level and keep competing.
“I qualified for state in solo and ensemble,” freshman Evin Gamage said. “I felt excited.”
Gamage is a French horn player in his fourth year of band and is one of the students in the band who qualified to go to state and compete. Students in choir qualified and went to state, too. Sophomore John Evans competed with other students in choir rather than as a soloist. Both band and choir students went and were scored by judges, competing for the state champion title. Overall, both the band and choir programs as well as the students competing are highly awarded and talented.
