Last year, FHN’s student body watched the football team lose over and over again, but the cheering never stopped. With the 2025 football season close approaching, students’ excitement grows until kickoff under those Friday Night Lights.
“I want to watch,” freshman Addi Buerhle said. “I want to hangout with my friends and see the vibe.”
The vibe mentioned is set by the FHN Goonies. With the Goonies being North’s unofficial cheerleaders every year, it can be difficult for them to keep the student section hype all game. This year’s Goonies have plans to make sure the student section is crowded.
“We’re gonna have incentives, like, the Goonie of the Game and chalk to throw up cause it’s whiteout themed,” senior and current Goonie, Olivia Gietl said.
All the themes are chosen by the Goonies, and while whiteout may not seem like the most exciting theme, some students are planning to wear shorts and white Knights t-shirts. Other students have come up with more elaborate plans.
“I’ll wear a white t-shirt and white shorts and just some white face paint,” senior Parker Frankland said.
But the crazy outfits and crowded student section mean more than just a few hours of a person’s Friday night or just hanging out with your friends. It means showing up and showing out to support another FHN student.
“I think it’s really important because I think knowing your school actually cares about what you’re doing and likes the sport you play, it’ll put some fire under their butts to actually do good,” Gietl said. “Hopefully we’ll win some games.”
Ultimately, Thursday’s home opener has students on the edge of their seats and hoping it is a good start to a winning season.
“Just have some fun and don’t try and go down with the seniors,” Frankland said.
