Since the new school has been in use, FHN staff, buses, and student drivers have all had to share the same road into and out of the school. However, FHN administrators decided that it was time for a change. At the start of last year, FHN managed construction on a new pathway for staff and buses.
‘’I use the new road every day,’’ FHN bus driver Joan Snyder said. ‘’I use it so I can get to my destinations on time.’’
With the old system, it took students and staff at least 30 minutes just to clear the parking lots. This caused students who rode the bus to sometimes arrive home after 3:00 p.m.. The new road is more efficient because it allows everyone to get to their final destinations quicker by taking separate routes.
‘’I think it just makes [leaving] less congested,’’ senior Madison Meyer said. ‘’It makes it easier for everybody to get out home quicker in case they have after school activities or jobs.’’
The road benefits both staff and students and is an essential upgrade to FHN. It gives both parties five to ten minutes of free time before or after school.
‘’At the end of the day, I think the students will see the benefit because you don’t have the buses blocking student drivers,’’ teacher Anne Ledbetter said. ‘’And I think they’re gonna enjoy that a heck of a lot more. But staff, because they park in the back, [it] allows them to have a special entry to come in and bypass a lot of the student traffic in the morning. So it benefits the students in the evening, but benefits the teachers in the morning.’’
