Spotify Wrapped has become not just a time capsule, but a social experience. This year, listeners are able to do that all within the app. Since its release on Dec. 3, Wrapped has exploded per usual across phone screens, and users seem to be happy with their results.
“I liked how it showed my favorite songs and how much I listened to them,” freshman Quinn Trebing said. “I got to see some songs I kind of forgot I had.”
Some of the new features for this year’s Wrapped include listening age, determined by the release date of the songs users have listened to, and being able to compare multiple users’ results in Spotify’s new chat feature. Other features include clubs, a quiz on listeners’ top song, an artist race to the top spot and a video from their top artist.
“It called me 77 years old when I looked at the age thing,” junior Iain Lyle said. “I think that’s a little bugged. I think they’re making you really old, because I listened to probably Frank Sinatra once, and they put me at 77.”
Last year, there were many complaints about the overuse of AI in peoples’ results and the lack of actual stats that Spotify gave its devout listeners. Spotify seems to have taken that criticism in hand as this year only one feature uses AI to recall memorable moments from each year.
Listeners can add their top songs as a playlist into their library like normal, but this year, users can also see how many times each song was listened to. Some students have suggestions for features to be added to next year’s Wrapped.
“I wish you could see what songs you searched for the most,” senior Jenna Lauer said.
