On March 10, the seniors of FHN spent their last class field trip going to the Saint Louis Zoo. This tradition for FHN seniors has been around for years, each class looking forward to their time visiting, even some teachers that went to North remembering their class going and sharing stories of it. The seniors reflected on past field trips with friends, mentioning how it felt bittersweet that this was their last field trip of their time in school, glad that they got to spend it in sunny weather.
“I haven’t been to the zoo in like, seven years,” senior Donna Marquez said. “It was really fun going and feeling like a kid again.”
The seniors got to choose their own groups and go wherever they wanted to within the Zoo’s property. Transport was provided, but students had to bring their own money for any other activities they wanted to participate in, or for any food they wanted. The trip lasted four hours, with the seniors leaving at 9:30 a.m., and returning to school at 1:30 p.m. in time for their seventh hour. Parents were allowed to chaperone if they RSVP’d, and helped with anything the kids or teachers needed during the trip. The students enjoyed touring the Zoo, taking photos and spending their last class field trip with friends, not having to be monitored by an adult. At the end, before the students filed back onto the buses, they gathered in front of the zoo’s entrance to take a large group photo.
“I enjoyed the food, too,” senior Chloe Vosa said. “[My favorite part] was taking pictures of the zebras and the deers and all of the animals. It was a lot of fun.”
