Avigna Mishra: Girls’ Lacrosse
Q: What is your name and how do you spell it?
A: My name’s Avigna Mishra. A-V-I-G-N-A M-I-S-H-R-A.
Q: What sports do you play?
A: I play lacrosse.
Q: What position/events do you play/do on the team?
A: I play on defense.
Q: What is your role/impact on the team?
A: I usually play, um, high defense, which means I’m closer to the middle of the field, and I just have to make sure the ball doesn’t get past a certain spot. So, like, around the middle ish, from the middle to the middle of the goal. So, like, the middle field, the goal, the middle from there, I have to make sure the ball doesn’t get past there.
Q: What are some of your key statistics so far?
A: I mean, I have two assists. And that’s kind of it. We don’t really keep many statistics like that.
Q: So, you all have a big game coming up against Central, huh?
A: I’m not sure. We haven’t gotten our… What’s it called? Uh, schedule, yeah.
Q: When is the game?
A: Um, I’m not sure.
Q: Where will the game be played?
A: Probably, both Central and North usually. If it’s, um, C team or like JV, we usually play, uh, the same teams sometimes, and we played central, I think, actually only once. But yeah.
Q: What can you tell me about how both teams have been playing this season?
A: Our varsity team, we had, I think it was like, I think it was 2 to 6. Like, wins? Um, and I think I’m not sure about central, actually. But JV, we were, I think, five to one.
Q: What was the game like the last time the two teams met?
A: Last season, I think, um… They went pretty well. They’re a good team to play against. Um, I don’t, I think C Team lost to them, and I think varsity might have also lost to them.
Q: What have you all been doing to prepare for it?
A: Our preseason, uh, training, like, just started. So we’ve been going to, like, the weight room and Fridays, we do stuff with our sticks. And then we have tryouts coming up in March.
Q: What kind of team is Central? Describe them a bit for me.
A: I think they did pretty good last year, so probably around the same. They are a good team.
Q: Why is this upcoming game a big one for the team?
A: As I said, we don’t have a schedule yet, so I can’t, like, fully dive into that. But, I mean, every game’s a big game.
Q: What will be the toughest part of the game for North and how do you all hope to overcome that part?
A: We actually lost eight players because we had eight seniors. So it’s gonna be kind of hard to, like, fill those gaps, but, like, we’ll see.
Q: What are you most looking forward to about this game?
A: The new players, I think we’re getting a decent amount of new players, and I’m just excited to see what they bring to the team.
Q: What kind of game do you see this shaping up to be?
A: I mean, I think it’s gonna go pretty well. Like, ’cause obviously, like, we lost the seniors, but I think, I think, yeah, we’re gonna do pretty well.
Q: What will need to happen for North to come out on top?
A: I think we’re gonna just, I need to, like, really, like, walk in and just, like, try to, like, bridge the gap from the new people until they can, like, fully understand lacrosse and, like, just get better.
Q: How do you think this game will go?
A: I think it’s gonna go pretty well.
Q: How is this game different from others for the team?
A: I couldn’t really say that yet, because, like, obviously practice hasn’t started, but we’ll see later on, and, like, yeah, once again, we just have to bridge the gap with the new players.
Q: Do you have anything you’d like to add or is there anyone else that I could talk to?
A: Um, I don’t think I would. Thank you.
