FHN’s juniors and seniors prom is set for April 17th. There are many things to know and answers to questions many students may have. Prom is set on a Friday, which is in fact a school day, this is mainly due to the fact that seniors get out early on this day.
“We used to have graduation practices and seniors got out early and were able to go take care of things,” Family and Consumer Science educator, Marissa Heyer said. “Also the cost of going to an event at a venue is really, really expensive, so it helps lower the cost of something when it’s on a Friday versus on a Saturday”.
Some may also wonder why we have a prom. It all circles back to tradition. Proms have been around at high schools for dozens of years.
“I believe [prom is around as] it just goes back to the tradition and that it has been around quite some time,” Heyer said.
The prom is held for the juniors and seniors, though it is only put together by the junior class.
“Prom is a junior and senior event that is put on by the junior class,” Heyer said.
Many people look forward to this event, especially if they get to go before their junior year. Even though prom is for juniors and seniors, people in their sophomore and even freshman year can go to prom if invited by a junior or senior.
“[I’m going this year as a sophomore] because my older sister invited me so we can hangout,” sophomore Elliana Kavades said.
There are so many cool things to look forward to at prom, such as being able to dress up and express oneself.
“It is so cool watching the junior delegates and officers who put on the planning process for a whole year the event come together, and it’s really cool to see the attendees all dressed up having a great time with their friends,” Heyer said.
