Drivers Ed. teacher Deric Edwards and students give out tips and tricks about driving for new drivers getting permits and licenses over the summer.
Limit Distractions

While driving, listening to music is a great way to entertain but can be a distraction when skipping or changing songs. It is good to play a radio station or playlist one enjoys to avoid taking eyes off the road.
“With the rise of electronics and cell phones the number of car crashes rose with it,’’ Drivers Ed teacher Deric Edwards said.
Once the music has been chosen, the driver should place their phone away, so that they are not distracted by it.
“I take my phone out of my pocket and put it in a cup holder,’’ senior Trey Duncan said.
Make Sure you Know the Road Signs

Recognizing the different signs, shapes, and colors are very important to the rules of the road to know if to yield or not, watch for pedestrians, basic rules or danger.
“Each color means something different, and then obviously the signs meaning,’’ Edwards said.
Don’t Assume Other Drivers are Going to Follow the Rules

When driving, don’t assume all other drivers are going to follow the traffic laws or not. For example, traffic lights, turn signals and yielding.
‘’Don’t assume that somebody’s gonna drive the speed limit or stop at that stop sign or stop light or use their turn signal,” Edwards said.
