The Teacher of the Year Award was presented to Joe Brocksmith, teacher of 21 years, to recognize his hard work and dedication in the classroom.
Brocksmith became a teacher to share his passion for nature while building strong connections with students.
“Learning [student’s] names, getting to know them well, forming those relationships and those bonds with them, because it motivates them, or at least encourages…” Brocksmith said.
His humor also helps with student connections, making the classroom more engaging and interesting.
“He is really funny,” sophomore Katie Ayres said. “He just makes a positive environment in the classroom.”
Despite the recognition, Brocksmith looks beyond the award. His focus remains on educating students and preparing them for success.
“I don’t like the notoriety,” Brocksmith said. “My number one priority at school is to be here for the kids.”
