This year, the coaches, Rowan Pugh and Emilee Fischer, did lots of recruiting within the school to see if even more ladies were interested in trying out the sport. They were able to roster 24 girls on the varsity team. 7 of which it was their first time attempting the sport. With many new faces in the sport, coaches had to adapt their practice schedules to work effectively with the athletes and teach them the game.
“The coaches did change up drills and tried some new things [shared] from the more experienced players of the team,” Second year varsity player Mattalyn Gibbs said, “But once we started experiencing more games and harder teams, we advanced a little bit.”
Gibbs was overall pleased with how the team ended their season, losing in the first round of the district playoffs to Parkway Central, 9-7.
