As the school year comes to a close, MAC Scholars is preparing for a transition in leadership. From a team consisting mostly of seniors, advisors Tara Wilien and Andrea Cornalan opened the floor for current sophomores and juniors in MAC Scholars to step up and take on a leadership role. The program selected two students for each of the positions: community service, culture committee, mentors, scholarship, and social media team. With two people leading each group, it allows officers to work together, support each other and bring out new ideas for the club.
“I’m just gonna take on collaboration, talking to the other MAC deans, as well as my assistant, Mahdi, putting in time into it, and we make sure we’re on that every single day,” MAC Scholars community service leader Hezkiel Dubale said. “It’s definitely gonna help us with our tasks.”
By staying engaged within the group, leaders aim to enhance participation and involvement in the program.
“I’m gonna try and get more community service for everyone, so that everyone can be getting involved whenever they need to,” Dubale said.
While also increasing community service opportunities, new leaders hope to offer more college resources and visits in the upcoming year.
“I want to hopefully schedule college visits or have college reps come here more often than just our one college fair that we do with the college readiness group,” MAC Scholar scholarship leader Makenzi Foley said.
As new leadership prepares for the next school year, they hope that their commitment to MAC Scholars will help students feel connected and supported in the group.
“I want them to have a sense of community,” Dubale said. “Everyone Mac Scholars knows and kind of likes each other, and I want them to be happy that they’re in that club.”
