Whether it’s at home watching games, or in person rooting for your favorite team, fans love hockey. Players love it too, but here at FHN, there is no hockey team, so athletes and fans have to go to other places to enjoy hockey.
“All the kids that play hockey that go to North all have to look for other schools, and it’s another option for a sport that people can play, it’s fun,” said Desmond Endres, a freshman who plays hockey at St. Peter’s Hockey Club.
To some, hockey isn’t just a sport, but it’s a way to connect with old friends and meet new ones. Hockey can bring players and fans together, but with no team at North, those connections aren’t being made.
“Hockey gave me a lot of friends that I hang out with outside of school and sports,” Endres said.
If North offered a hockey program, it could open a greater variety of sports for everyone. Hockey is on the ice, so it is a lot different than all the other sports that we offer currently.
“Hockey is really fun, and it’s something different that everyone could try out,” said Colby Tallo, a freshman who has been playing hockey since he was 5.
All different kinds of people from players to viewers are able to watch hockey and enjoy it. According to Tallo, it is a fun way to support your school and can show school spirit.
“Going to games with my dad is one of my favorite things to do, it’s really fun to be able to bond with him and bond through hockey,” said Reece Arehart, a Saint Louis Blues fan.
FHN used to offer a hockey team, and fans enjoyed watching and coming to support. Nick Scott, a former Francis Howell North alumnus, also enjoyed having a hockey team.
“Hockey was a way that me and my friends were able to hang out, and it’s really enjoyable to watch,” said Scott.
