Knights prepare for Homecoming game against Oakville

With three games under their belt and a record of 1-2 as of press time, Varsity Football is preparing for the Homecoming game against Oakville on Sept. 23.

Last year Varsity played Oakville on Sept. 24. The final score ended in a 40-19 win for the Knights. According to coach John Brune, it was considered one of the best games of the season. The team would like to keep the momentum going with another win this year.

“I expect everyone to play hard and do their job,” Brune said.

As of press time, Oakville’s Varsity team also has a record of 1-2. The Knights are striving for another win against Oakville to not only to set the standard for the rest of the season, but to boost the school’s morale.

” I feel we will be able to understand our [positions] and play well and aggressive because I know the game is a big deal for the seniors as well as the school,” Sargent said.

To prepare for the game, the team has been watching film from last year’s game to counter the runs and plays Oakville uses. In addition, each coach is placing specific focus on playing from either an offensive or defensive perspective. Special teams coach Jeff Sargent is working to make sure all the players know where they are supposed to be and what they are supposed to do.

“It’s really important that everyone takes practices seriously,” middle linebacker and fill back Alex Walker said. “It is important that everyone is playing for the team, and not just for the jerseys.”
