Pink Ribbon game proceeds go to American Cancer Society

Proceeds from this year’s Pink Ribbon basketball games, which were on Feb. 7, went to the American Cancer Society in honor of Patti Bartell. Bartell was diagnosed with breast cancer in August, and in December, Bartell finished chemotherapy.

“Every year our whole night is geared around helping others, and one way is donating money to a place that is trying to find a cure,” Pink Ribbon game founder Dawn Hahn said.

In the past four years, the Pink Ribbon games have raised over $2,000 to the American Cancer Society. As of press time, the total amount of money raised is not yet known.

“It makes me feel proud of our school and happy it is going to a good cause,” game attendant Allie Medlin said.

At the Pink Ribbon games, both the girls and boys teams defeated Fort Zumwalt East. The Varsity girls won 46-40, and the Varsity boys won 48-36. Some team members attribute these victories to the positive cause.

“It inspires us and motivates us to give everyone there a good show,” senior Emma Nicolli said, “and know we are fighting for more than just a basketball game.”
