Quick Response to Injuries

Quick+Response+to+Injuries

Every season there’s always a story about an injury happening in sports. You hear about how the player felt and how long and tough the recovery process is. It takes a lot to push through an injury quickly but for Junior baseball player Logan Moll it was all motivation.

“Yeah, it definitely took a lot mentally to get back out on the field,” Moll said. “I couldn’t throw for two months and stayed in physical therapy for a while which made me end up missing the end of my sophomore season.”

Moll was pitching in a JV baseball game when a nerve in his arm popped, causing him to lose feeling in his arm and not knowing what would happen next.

“It was really scary, you know,” Moll said. “It’s just like a normal day throwing then randomly your hand goes numb and you lose all strength in your and have no clue what to do.”

Although Moll had a recovery time, it wasn’t only him in this battle. He had coaches and teammates to back him up the whole way. One of them being catcher Will Gorski.

“I had a similar issue with an arm injury my freshman year so I knew what it was like, but it’s scarier when you see your pitcher go down because it could be literally anything in his arm.” Gorski said. “I got to see the improvement from his injury though and he takes recovery and his form a lot more which is good to see.”

Motivational and caring teammates are important when it comes to injuries, but the coaches perspective and how they see things is also a big part of recovery.

“There’s only so much we can do as coaches,” coach Jesse Stewart said. “I sort of have to leave it up to the trainer on how the player should take the injury, but I tried to be there for Logan when he got hurt because I got hurt in my highschool days, and I know what it feels like mentally when that happens.”

Mental toughness is 50 percent of the battle when it comes to injury and Moll saw this as an opportunity for growth rather than shutting down when adversity struck.

“I don’t want to say I’m glad I got hurt but it’s one of those things you have to experience to really realize how capable you are of overcoming hard things and I think I only really improved from this experiment.” Moll said.
