In a late evening game on Tuesday, May 24 the Varsity girls Soccer team beat Fort Zumwalt West 1-0 to solidify a win at sectionals.
“It’s a big deal because it’s Olwig’s first year coaching,” Varsity senior Taylor Berra said.
After the game winning first goal by Hali Long just 10 minutes into the game, the rest of the exhibition remained relatively uneventful, according to players.
“It was an uneventful, chaotic mess,” Berra said. “But that works best for us.”
Berra attributes part of the win to the support of the fans, lead vigorously by the “Hackmann Hooligans.” The group threw a tailgating party before the game that helped bring intensity to the crowd and the team. After their win, the girls will take on Incarnate Word at a yet to be identified place this Saturday, May 28.
“The fans cheering got us psyched and ready to go,” Berra said. “This win is just another step closer to finals.”
