Monday Jan. 7 began the Varsity Girls Basketball tournament where North defeated Warrenton with a score of 65-44. The Knights played Mexico on Wed. Jan 9 and were defeated 48-38. On Fri. Jan. 11, North beat Fort Zumwalt North by one point ending at 40-39.
“The best game was most definitely [against Zumwalt North] because we were down in fourth quarter and never gave up and pulled through and won the game by one with around 25 seconds left,” senior Morgan May said.
In this tournament the teams were seeded into an eight team bracket where the winners advance and the losers go to the consolation round, junior Kaitlin Isbell explained.
“With a little luck we could have won the whole thing,” Isbell said. “We need to work on defense and outside shots. I think we played well all together though, and our chemistry is improving.”
According to junior Jessie Mocerri, the team needs to work on communication and that the game against Mexico on Wed. was the most challenging, which led to a loss.
“They were a good shooting team and we had a hard time playing defense against the three point shooters,” Mocerri said.
