Marching Band and Color Guard Students Bring Back Bandcoming

Bandcoming will take place on Friday, Oct. 30 after school in the commons. Bandcoming is a homecoming dance for the band and guard students who were not able to attend homecoming due to their competition Bands of America, which was scheduled the same day as homecoming this year.

“We have bandcoming because we want to,” junior Lydia Harms said. “Everybody likes school dances, and we don’t want to miss out on our chance to have that. If we were able to go to homecoming then we wouldn’t have bandcoming.”

The last bandcoming dance was held two years ago at a banquet hall down in old St. Charles. Bandcoming works the same way as homecoming, according to students. They go out and take pictures, go to dinner and even come up with bandcoming proposals and ask each other to the dance. There is one difference this year, though: no outside people are allowed to the dance because they would have to have more staff and parents to chaperone the event.

“I enjoy bandcoming because it’s a way to still experience homecoming and we get to get dressed up and spend time with each other,” senior Elizabeth Jansen said. “My favorite part is just getting to spend a really fun night with all of my close friends.”

Although the band and color guard season just ended, the students are still excited to get to see each other and enjoy their night together.

“I’m super excited to see everyone again, even though the season literally just ended,” freshman Elise Gordon said. “This year was really great and I love hanging out with everyone so much. I’ve made so many good friends and I’m just ready to have a great time with them.”
