Spring sports are right around the corner and that means baseball is coming up. The varsity baseball Troy tournament is March 18th. The first game will take place at 4 p.m. at Francis Howell North. The team will be facing Hillsberry for the first game. Then two more games on the March 19 at FZW. The second game is against FZE at 11:30 a.m., and later, at 2:00 p.m., they face FZW.
“Last season, our team had a decent season with some close games that could have been won,” First Basemen Matt Dunham said.
Determined to top last season, the team has been working hard and training for the Troy tournament, spending almost everyday after school practicing on the new baseball field.
“I prepare myself when I wake up. I just put my mindset in baseball mode,” Second Basemen Max Brauch said. “The team does the same”.
The tournament works by putting four different schools in four different pools. Each school will play three games that will be up against the other schools in their pool. With the outcomes of the games, the schools will be placed from first to fourth within their pool due to their performance. From there, the team will face another team that placed the same in a different pool. The team that wins that game will advance to the semi-finals. After semi-finals, it’s off to the championships.
“I make sure I am 100% healthy, and I am mentally ready. As a team, we make sure we know all the plays and signs, and make sure everyone is on the same page,” Pitcher Sam Grace said. “I feel confident we’ll do well because of our solid group of upperclassmen and the two other sophomores with varsity”.
