The junior varsity girls soccer team will be taking the field on March 29 at 6 p.m. against Fort Zumwalt West. This will be the third game of the season. The latest game was against St. Charles High on March 24 and had an ending score of 2-0.
“After the game, I realized I needed to work on making sure I’m always ready in the goal and to make sure the defenders mark who they should be,” goalie Danielle Davis said.
The team practices Monday through Friday from 2:20 p.m. to 4 p.m. During these practices, they set up corner kicks, play scrimmages and do housekeeping tasks like replacing the nets. Over spring break, the team had two games. They played Incarnate Word Academy and St. Charles High.
“I think playing the two games over break was good for the team,” Coach Randy Roy said. “It kept the girls active instead of just taking a break for a week.”
According to freshman Jenna Galkowski, she feels really good going into the game. The team has been practicing a lot. She heard FZW was a hard competitor last year, but she feels like they will have a better outcome tomorrow. She says that a lot of the girls have been practicing over spring break which will better prepare them for tomorrow.
“I know over spring break I ran at least 3 miles when it was nice out,” Galkowski said. “It’s really going to help because I don’t know if some girls even practiced.”
Coach Roy has big goals for the team. With last year’s seniors gone, the team has adjusted like any other year. First to win conference and then go off to districts and from then on just playing it game by game.
“Typically, the concept stays the same year to year,” Roy said. “We just have to keep it simple and focus one game at a time.”
