Q&A with Girls’ Golf Coach Chris Whitthaus
Published: August 29, 2017
Q: How long have you been coaching?
A: This will be my 2nd year.
Q: What do you enjoy about coaching golf?
A: I enjoy the sport itself and it gives me a chance to get to know my students better outside of the classroom. I get to feel more connected to them.
Q: What are you looking forward to this year?
A: I’m looking forward for the seniors’ final season and actually competing at tournaments.
Q: Who are some standouts that you have on your team this year?
A: Briana Schmidt and Jessica Qian. They have been working all summer and they set their minds on being really good players.
Q: Do you have any tough matches coming up?
A: Our conference is gonna be tough this year. Francis Howell is always good but Timberland took a step back this year.
Q: How do you think the team will do overall?
A: I think we will be pretty dangerous. I think if we work hard, we can be 2nd or 3rd in our conference.
Q: Describe some of your goals for this season.
A: I would love for Bri and Jess to make it to State. It would be really cool to have more people qualify for sectionals, too. I think we can make it in the top half of GAC South.
Q: How do you help the golfers improve?
A: I just try to get them more prepared for matches and challenges they might face.
