Knights Fall to Fort Zumwalt West in Fourth Quarter

Senior Ben Oster battles through an opponent while trying to go for a layup during a varsity boys basketball game on Dec. 9. Oster has been playing basketball for all four years of high school and was excited to start off the season. “I wasn’t nervous at all for the game, I was prepared for the moment and was excited to start off my last basketball season of high school,” Oster said.

The boys varsity basketball team took on Fort Zumwalt West at St. Charles West at 6 p.m. on Dec 9. It was the Knights first official game of the season and the energy was high.

“After seeing Fort Zumwalt West warm up, I felt like we had the better team, but they had some bigger guys and that ended up hurting us in the end,” Ben Oster, a point guard for the Knights, said.

It was a back and forth game, tied in the first quarter and then the Knights took the lead at half by a single point.

“I was in a ‘go get it’ mindset because I thought if we kept up the way we were playing, we had the game in the bag,” Oster explained.

Fort Zumwalt West gave the Knights a run for their money during the second half but the Knights were able to hold their lead at the end of the third quarter 41-38. However, during the fourth and final quarter of the match, the lead slipped away and they lost the game 59-52.

“We got tired and lost the momentum. We didn’t play with the same energy as the first three quarters, and they played a stronger fourth quarter,” Oster said.

The Knights will play again on Dec. 10 at St. Charles West against Marquette. The game will begin at 6 p.m.
