On Tuesday, Sept. 28, Family and Consumer Science (FCS) teacher Marissa Heyer was awarded the Emerson Excellence in Teaching award by FHN administration.

“I’m flattered,” Heyer said. “I am beyond shocked and honored that I was nominated and selected just because it’s a recognition and [an] award.”

This award is open to the greater St. Louis area and all the teachers located in it. Assistant principal Chris Birch nominated Heyer to the district office due to her dedication and commitment to her students. She was one of few picked by the district office to be officially nominated for the award.

“She is very deserving,” Birch said. “She’s been just a rockstar for us here. Her dedication to the kids is amazing [and] she always has a very warm and positive classroom environment. She’s just an overall great person.”
