Retired teacher continues to coach

Coach and former teacher Bill Moyer has recently retired from his teaching career, but still coaches the FHN Boys Varsity Basketball team.

“The competition, the team aspect of it, and the relationship between the players and the coach (is what keeps me coaching),” Moyer said.

Moyer fully intends to continue coaching for as long as he can. He has coached for 35 years and fits right in at North.

“There was a coaching spot open at North, but no teaching (spot), and I was teaching at another school at the time,” Moyer said. “Then a spot opened up here to teach, so I took it.”

Moyer still returns to school periodically to be a substitute teacher.

“I sub a lot … to maintain contact,” Moyer said.

Because Moyer no longer teaches, he says that this gives him more time to prepare for practices and games, and Moyer is ready to take on the season.

“I’m looking forward for the year to start,” Moyer said. “The guys have been working really hard (and) I’m looking forward to a good season.”
