The Varsity boys soccer team had a successful start to the season last year, but after key injuries; two of which were the teams only seniors, the team ended the season with a 9-15-1 overall record.

“Three of our top players got hurt including our two captains and our only two seniors,” Senior Patrick Cronin said.  “We lost all of our leadership and we were not able to recover.”

Although out matched by older teams, the team was able to beat Pattonville 2-0 and McCluer North 4-1 to win districts. The Knights lost to Vianney in their sectional game, ending their season.

“We had our ups and downs but it was a good learning season,” Assistant coach Zach Fettig said.

Despite a rough season last year head coach Larry Scheller has high expectations for his team this year.  An attempt to build on their playoff performance last year.

“Many of these kids have played Varsity since they were sophomores and I know we have the ability to compete this year,”  Scheller said.

This season the team looks to stay injury free and improve upon last season. The Knights have 11 returning players; 7 of which are seniors.

Aug. 30 the Varsity Boys Soccer team will open their season with a game against Summit in the opening game of the Parkway North Tournament.

“Summit beat us up last year, but we look a lot better and I think we will win,” Senior Austin Higginbottom said.
