Boys Soccer 2014 Season Preview

As the tryouts began on Aug. 4, several boys started to show off their skills on the field in order to earn a spot on the varsity soccer team. The players chosen can’t wait to kick off the new

season with returning coach Larry Scheller.

“As an incoming freshman, it definitely allowed me to meet new people who shared the same interest as me,” freshman Alex Long said. “Coach Scheller and Coach Fettig have been training us hard, preparing us for a tough schedule and I’m looking forward to this season to improve my abilities and representing North.”

With winning districts last year but losing in sectionals, they hope to get farther than they did last season and up their record.

“We are very optimistic!” Junior Chris Oswald said. “We feel that we can win districts and depending on who we play in sectionals, we have a fighting chance.”

The varsity teams biggest rival has always been Howell High and Central. In the past season North has lost to both schools but they plan to work hard to defeat the Howells this season.

“We are focused on being a better team by working together and working hard,” Oswald said.

From last season to this season, there are many changes coming about. There are also, challenges that both the players and Coach Scheller face for the games ahead, but the team is working hard to be the best they can be.

“The biggest challenge is having a lot of very different players coming together,” Coach Scheller said. “Each player plays a certain way and has a certain style, but we are working on coming together in practice, day in and day out, we are just working hard.”
