Ice Hockey Faces Timberland in Playoff Semifinals

Ice Hockey Faces Timberland in Playoff Semifinals

On Friday, February 20, the Howell North hockey team will play Timberland in the Semifinal of the Wickenheiser Cup Playoff.

After beating Vianney and Lutheran South, the Knights will play the Timberland Wolves for a chance to go to the finals at the Scottrade Center. The winner of the three game series will play the winner of the Fox-Seckman series in the finals.

The two teams last played on January 6, where Howell North won 9-4 with three goals from junior Tyler McAtee. McAtee has the second most goals on the team behind senior Brycon Johnson. The 6’1 forward has the most goals on the team and the third most assists this season. The team leader in assists is fellow senior Brennan Buerck, who has 29 this season.

As for their opponents, the Wolves are lead by junior Kyle Johnson who has 24 goals this season. That is four goals behind Brycon Johnson. As for assists they are lead by sophomore Samir Abouelhana who has 9 fewer than Buerck.

To get to this series, Timberland beat Marquette in two games. Howell North lost the first game against Lutheran South but then came back and won the second. This forced a third mini game in which the Knights won 1-0 by a goal from Brycon Johnson.

The first game of the series against Timberland will be played at 7:00 p.m. at the Hardee’s Iceplex. The second game of the series will be played at 1:00 p.m. the following day.
