Leading the Final Games with a Winning record

On September 30, the Howell North Knights freshman softball team will head to Progress Park to face the Wentzville Holt Indians on the Indian’s home field. The Knights have a record of 8-6 so far this season, and they are hoping to finish with a winning record. The Holt game will be the second to last game of the season for the freshman girls.

“We started out the season strong and we’re ending it strong as well,” freshman shortstop Emma Beye said. “I’ve seen a lot of improvement from tryouts to now in everyone on the team.”

The Knights came out to start the season with 3 straight wins, beating Zumwalt West 9-8, Pattonville 12-0, and Ritenour 20-2. They shut out Zumwalt North 13-0 in their last game on Friday. Their season has been pretty successful so far. The team works hard on and off the field in order to come out on top. This is the first time the Knights have faced Holt this season, and the girls are well prepared.

“We practice every day of the week that we don’t have a game,” freshman third baseman Peyton Mauldin said. “We do lots of hitting and basic infield/outfield drills to prepare.”

The team as a whole has improved greatly throughout the season. All of their hard work will be put to the test during Wednesday’s game, and the team has high expectations.

“I expect everyone to give 100% effort at the game,” Beye said. “If we play as a team like I know we can, we can beat Holt for sure.”

The biggest goal that the girls have for the game is to have a solid defense. The team’s defense has improved throughout the season, and the girls are hoping to keep improving. The Knights expect to come out playing hard as a team, having fun, and learning.

“I’ve been looking at my freshman year as a learning experience,” freshman pitcher Maggie Majesky said. “It’s more important to me that we play good than win, but we’ve worked hard so hopefully we will have a good outcome.”
