Boys Tennis Look To Build New Foundation

With their season being only a month and a half long, a common misconception is that boys tennis players have a light workload. Despite the length, the boys have 13 regular season games packed into that tight window, excluding tournaments built in. In their constant time together as a team, there is a tight knit unity between the whole varsity team.

“I have known a lot of these guys for years,” junior Kai Gustafson said. “We have all played together outside of school for years so I definitely think that contributes to the bond we all have.”

Due to the workouts the players do outside of FHN tennis, many of the underclassmen have experience with the seasoned varsity players from day one. This includes freshman Jace Jameson, number two singles player.

“It’s really been great getting to learn from everyone.” Jameson said. “I appreciate how inviting the team has been and has given me the opportunity to succeed.”

Despite the influx of young talent, the boys tennis varsity top six consists of four upperclassmen. Of these players, most of them have experience in late season competition, making it far in districts/state. In building a young team, having experienced leaders is pivotal.

“I love the opportunity I have to be a leader on this team.” senior Beckett Silzle said. “We have a lot of really great younger guys on this team that I love getting to compete and get to know. I really look forward to how our season goes.”
