The golf team adds one new coach to the team, with Coach Havermale stepping down this year. With this new coach the team will hope to prevail and get many wins this season.
“She’s going to help us with particular shots and just how to play the course in general,” junior Sean Borgschulte said.
The team lost four seniors last year, one being key player Ian McDermitt. Bryce Renz, a returning junior with much experience is looking to replace this loss. Renz was very close to qualifying for state last year finishing two shots off the cut line and looks to qualify this year. Players also looking to help this team to wins are senior Jackson McGowen, and juniors Jay Choi and Sean Borgschulte.
“I look to step up and be the captain of the team,” Renz said. “I’m excited for what I have to bring this season and I feel more than ready to step up and lead this team.”
One of the teams biggest tournaments of the season besides of course the State tournament, is their tournament at Gateway National Golf Course. This tournament has 10 teams in it including the Knights. Another big match the team is looking forward to playing is Howell on Apr. 18.
“Our biggest match is probably going to be Howell because they are usually a solid team, so it will be a competitive one,” McGowen said.
The Knights last year went 3-3 in match play. They also placed second in the GAC South tournament, and the Warrenton Invitational, and tied for first at the Gateway National Best Ball Tournament.
“Last season went well. We finished second in our conference with 2 of our golfers (me and Ian) getting 1st team all conference so overall good,” Renz said.
