The Varsity girls soccer team has started the 2011 season with a 4-2 record under new coach Mark Olwig.
The girls go into the weekend fresh off of a 6-0 win against Warrenton and the season seems to be heating up.
“At first I thought it was a little rocky, but we’ve definitely gotten stronger,” junior Megan Frkovic said. “I think we will keep getting stronger as the season goes on.”
Although the girls spend their high school soccer careers playing for the name on the front of the jersey, this weekend will give them a chance to play for their own name. They’ll be playing in a college showcase at St. Louis Soccer Park in Fenton April 8 at 4 p.m. and April 9 at 4:15 p.m.
A showcase is an opportunity for college coaches or scouts to attend games and look for potential players. According to junior Katy Friedlein, this is a fantastic chance for the team to prove their skills to college coaches and scouts.
“It kind of makes me nervous,” Friedlein said. “At the same time, it makes me want to play better because they get to see you once, so it’s like a first impression.”
