Alex Williams Makes the Jump to Varsity Libero

Junior Alex Williams takes the step from playing JV last season to becoming the Varsity libero for the Knights volleyball team. The progression from JV to Varsity, and taking on a big role such as libero can be a challenge, but not one Williams isn’t ready for.

“Everything is more fast-paced and everyone’s skill level is better so it’s a little tough, but playing club was a great way to transition,” Williams said.

Though Williams has had a big difference in moving from competing against JV teams to Varsity teams, playing club volleyball has made this jump easier by giving him the opportunity to play teams at a higher level.

“Playing these teams has benefited my skill level for the better,” Williams said.

Not only is skill and technique a huge part of the game, but the way individuals work with their teammates is such an important part of playing volleyball.

“Me and Parker [Smith] have really been able to find our rhythm with each other and play well together,” Williams said.

Having this friendship with other defense specialists is such a vital aspect to playing. When one has chemistry on the court, players can bring up each other’s skills and communication. As well as forming relationships with his other back row players, Williams has found it to be easy fitting in with the team and making connections with everyone.

“We do a lot of team bonding and the whole team gets along well, and grows together,” Williams said.
