Facing their rivals once again, the varsity boys’ volleyball team have a home game against FHC on April 12. They have been practicing and learning through their mistakes so they can get their errors fixed to be prepared.
“I can’t wait to play them,” junior Jake Oppenborn said. “We’ve already played them once and they’ve got a lot of talent. I’m happy to see a completion against them.”
The team as a whole is looking to get a conference win. All the teams in the area are in conference which includes FHSD and FZSD. Whoever has the best conference in the end of the year has a conference win.
“Central always comes out and plays tough and they’re obviously fired up to play us,” Coach Ryan VonFeldt said. “We’re just as fired up to play them as well and we’ve already beaten them once. It’s a home game so hopefully we’ll have more momentum.”
Lately the team has been working on limiting their mistakes and making sure that they set them straight. They’ve been keeping in mind their goals for conference wins as well.
“I think we’ll do well because statically we lead in a lot of categories and we work well together,” junior Evan Bernard said. “We have a lot of fun playing as a team.”
VonFeldt is seeking for the boys on the team to have fun. He knows that they can do well against the teams since they’re experienced in volleyball.
“[The best part about coaching the team is] watching the guys grow from freshman to seniors and having them all be part of a family,” VonFeldt said. “I have three boys of my own so it’s like an extended family with them. [The most stressful part is] probably when we’re playing a team I know we can beat and were playing down to their level, but I have faith in them.”
