As we wrap up the first month of the FHN girl’s lacrosse season, things have started out great. Like many other FHN spring sports, they are practicing on the new stadium field. However, due to an active construction site, they cannot host games. The team currently has a record of six wins out of the nine games played so far. There have been many key victories, including the second game of the season. The varsity girls lacrosse team played against the catholic school from downtown St. Louis, Rosati-Kain, which resulted in an impressive victory of 23-0.

“We were up by a good amount of points so the coaches decided that it would be a good opportunity for some of the newer players to get some game experience,” junior Lea Wenger, a third year lacrosse player, said. “It was good for them because they got to show off what they’ve been practicing and feel what it is like to be in a game.”

The team has high hopes for the season, as last season they experienced a win streak of 8 games in a row, with a total record of 10-6. The girls hope to experience many more victories this season, as well as getting their new teammates more comfortable with the sport, while improving in many areas and working better together as a team. The team is looking forward to their May 8 game against Incarnate Word Academy as it will be the senior night of three players on the team.

“We are hoping to make it to at least our second round of districts and maybe try and pass up our win streak from last season for most wins consecutively,” said senior Maggie Cuccio. “We broke the record last year and I think we all together as a team want to break the record again this year.”
